I think it has more to do with bigger engine=/=better, not down playing the engines though.

For sure. My favorites are cars that seemed great back then but are now known to be steaming piles. Aztek for example.

Glad I’m not the only one. I regularly while away a Sunday afternoon watching this sort of stuff (followed buy heading to the classified to see what they are worth now). Home market advantage normally won out in the 80’s and 90’s (I have a stack of mostly old British car mags and the bias in those is beyond belief!).
Unless the presenter had just bought himself a new ‘off road car’
